Scappoose, Oregon, October 26, 2023 - The Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center, Research and Development (OMIC R&D) is excited to announce its most recent recognition, the Oregon Business & Industry (OBI) Visionary Award. The award will be presented at the annual Vision Oregon Event on October 25, 2023. This distinguished award is bestowed upon individuals, employers, and organizations that “play a pivotal role in fortifying Oregon’s economy and contributing to its shared prosperity through devising solutions to significant challenges,” according to OBI.
Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center, Research and Development (OMIC R&D) was founded in 2017 and combines the efforts of industry and academic partners to develop advanced metals manufacturing technologies and processes. Their facility features a world-class collaborative environment, allowing the team to develop new tools, techniques, and technologies to address near-term manufacturing challenges through applied research and advanced technical training.
“The Visionary Award specifically calls out ‘solving significant challenges’ and that is what OMIC R&D does,” said Craig Campbell, OMIC R&D Executive Director. “We go beyond the traditional boundaries of research and education. We are here to ensure that the innovations we discover and create at OMIC R&D get beyond the labs and reports and get into the hands of manufacturers. They are the ones who will propel Oregon’s economy to new heights,” he added. “Businesses have always been the foundation of Oregon’s economy, and with the great promise of true innovation OMIC R&D is transforming invention into action, resulting in real-world solutions.”
In association with academic institutions like Oregon Tech, Oregon State University, and Portland State University, and industry titans such as Boeing, Daimler Truck North America, Capture3D, and Oregon Tool among others, OMIC R&D continues to be a linchpin in bolstering the manufacturing sector in Oregon. Its concerted efforts support the manufacturing workforce of over 200,000 jobs in the state that contributes more than $33 billion annually to Oregon’s gross domestic product, marking a significant stride toward a prosperous and technologically advanced Oregon.
OMIC will share the dual 2023 OBI vision award with the Families First Childcare Center located in Boardman, Oregon. “OMIC R&D is honored to be recognized in the company of our fellow past and 2023 Vision Oregon award recipients as we bring our own respective contributions to Oregon and the nation,” Campbell added.
